How It Works

Before beginning any treatment, our experienced therapist will analyse your skin and hair type to create a fully personalised treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.

The CANDELA GentleMax Pro uses a large treatment spot size, allowing multiple hair follicles to be targeted simultaneously for faster and more efficient sessions.

• For clients with lighter skin and dark hair, we use Alexandrite (755nm)

• For darker skin tones, we use Nd:YAG (1064nm) for safety and effectiveness

Hair growth reduces progressively over multiple sessions. We typically recommend a course of 8 to 12 sessions, spaced approximately 4 weeks apart, depending on the treatment area and your individual skin/hair profile.

Expected Treatment Progress:

• 1st session – Hair may take longer to grow back; some initial reduction possible

• 3rd session – Hair becomes finer

• 4th session – Noticeable reduction in regrowth

• 8th session – Significant reduction in hair growth

• 10th–12th session – Smooth, long-lasting results; maintenance begins (1–2 sessions per year)

Preparation

Shave

Shave the treatment area the night before your appointment.

No Wax

Do not wax 4 weeks before your appointment as pigment is required in the hair follicle for the laser to identify the hair and treatment to be effective.

Avoid Direct Sunlight

Allow 4 weeks prior to your treatment if you have had direct sun exposure. (Any kind of tanning or active sunbathing, with or without SPF). Allow 2 weeks prior to your treatment if you have had incidental sun exposure (stayed in the shade for the majority of the time during sunny periods, with or without SPF on).

Avoid Using Topical Creams

Avoid using topical creams, moisturisers, body oils, colognes or perfumes to the area being treated 24 hours prior to treatment. Ensure all fake tan is removed and there is no residual fake tan present on the skin 24 hours before your treatment.

Aftercare

Post care

There may be some mild redness and heat in areas that have been treated. Soothe any redness and sensitivity with sooting cream. This can be applied for 3-5 days or until the skin has returned to its pre-treatment state.

Things to avoid

For 24 hours post-treatment, avoid shaving, waxing, or plucking hair, exfoliation, excessive sweating, swimming or saunas, very hot showers, and tight restrictive clothing.

Avoid direct sunlight.

Avoid exposing the area to direct sunlight for a minimum 2 - 4 weeks after your treatment and always use Age Defence 50+ sunscreen to protect the skin and maintain results.
